The PCX type neck lenghten spreader is assembled between the hip prosthesis stem and the head components, providing a self-locking conical connection.
It is indicated to use when the stable stem and acetabulum cannot create the appropriate geometry even with different neck lengths. This might happen in primary and revision surgeries.
NB: Neck lengthening might increase the offset, therefore the stress on the stem and the femur is also increased. In order to eliminate risks of early loosening or periprosthetic fracture, the application of this needs preoperative evaluation (patient’s bone quality, weight, mobility, etc.)
The patient needs to be informed about the increased risk of complications.
